Whether fear is real or imagined, fear processes through our mind and body in the same way.
Fear is “a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.”
It doesn’t matter if we have a damn good reason to be afraid, or if we’ve fabricated our own foreboding. We can use the emotional energy of fear in a constructive, causative way that serves us, rather than debilitate us. Whether fear is justified or our consternation is self-manufactured, we can use it as energetic fuel to slow down, pull back, rethink, withdraw, stop – or devise a better plan, move forward, gain momentum, and charge ahead in a constructive, creative way.
Who do we call on to help us do this when we’re up against the wall or in deep shit – when we’re stuck, or in need of inspiration, motivation, or just a reality check? A friend we can count on. A friend who’s got our back.
When we befriend fear – it can help us focus more clearly; raise our awareness so we make better decisions; help us accomplish things we might never have without that extra push. So… What happens as we experience fear as a trusted, reliable friend?
